Understanding the Impacts of Trauma
Traumatic events can make us question who we are—our safety in the world, and the safety of others. They can rattle our nervous systems, threaten our health, and throw our lives into chaos. The consequences of trauma are far-reaching. They can impact all areas of our lives: our ability to function in school and at work and to maintain healthy relationships. Trauma can even cause us to self-isolate and withdraw from the world. Fortunately, there is a place where despair is met with hope. Where vulnerability is replaced by safety. Where doubt becomes a belief.
Why Sanctuary?
PTSD and Complex PTSD
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychological disorder that’s triggered by a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. A person suffering from Complex-PTSD has endured repeated exposure to traumatic events, usually occurring in childhood.
Co-Occuring Disorders
For many trauma sufferers, most days are a battle for survival. In order to numb their pain, many will engage in behaviors that make them feel better in the short term but are quite destructive. Our therapists have specialized skills to assist you.
Intensive Outpatient Trauma Treatment
Healing from trauma and stress can be a long process for anyone. Sanctuary’s Intensive Outpatient Trauma Treatment can provide you the individualized treatment you need without disrupting your entire day-to-day life.
The Sanctuary Community
Put simply, we want to see you thrive! We know that traumatic experiences, both big and small, can prevent you from engaging in a meaningful and joyful life. Our goal is to provide you with tools and skills that will help to settle and heal your nervous system, and to help you process and start to think differently about yourself, others, your past, and your future. We hope that we can be of assistance not only in developing new skills and understandings for yourself, but that we can help educate your supporters and aid with your discharge planning when it is time.
We invite you to your healing process. We are here to support, offer guidance when you seek it, and to witness your healing journey. We will always seek to be collaborative and to help you to achieve your personal recovery goals.
